Our client's recently moved into a South Philadelphia row home built in 1865 with lots of original architectural details and charm. The kitchen had been updated by the previous owners but did not reflect the feel of the rest of the house or my clients personal style. We worked with them to choose finishes that were traditional with a modern twist and exchanged the the dark wood and beige tones for more clean crisp colors. Small changes like centering the stove, putting in a larger window above the sink and adding open shelving gives the kitchen a light and open feeling.
Morris Street Kitchen
The homeowners came to us wanting help updating their kitchen and making it more functional. My first impression of the kitchen was how underutilized the space was, it had very little counter area or cabinets yet it was a good sized room. Space planning this kitchen was tons of fun, we closed up the side door and added a sliding glass door leading to the back yard to open up the space and let in more light. Moving the basement door into the living room made room for more counter top and a pantry. We jokingly separated the space into the business side and party side. The business side incorporated the stove, sink and fridge, tall wall cabinets for all of the table top items, a pantry for dry goods and to house the microwave out of site. The party side with a large counter perfect for a pop-up cocktail bar and the generous bench seating offers a place to hang out and chat.

Graduate Hospital Fireplace
AFTER: We started with a locally sourced hand-made star cross pattern in White and Persian blue. These colors are warm but yet still had a modern edge to them.
AFTER: Great shot including the custom wood mantel and shelves made by brunodesignbuild.com.
AFTER: The detail below the fire box is a custom fabricated pieces of Pennsylvania slate.
Before: Our clients original fireplace surround was pretty unexciting. After we talked and looked at tiles we quickly realized we wanted this fireplace to have a hand made feel to balance the modern design of the house.
